Connecting an AI tool to email, files, or accounts gives it access to real information. Approve only the access the task needs, and know how to remove it later.
What to do
- Read the permission screen instead of clicking through it.
- Ask: can it only read, or can it also send, edit or delete?
- Choose the narrowest option that still does the job.
- Know where to revoke access, and put a reminder to review it.
An example
A scheduling assistant asks for full access to email and files. You only need calendar access. You grant calendar only.
Label copy
For small labels: Read what an AI tool wants access to.
For water-bottle labels: Before you connect an AI tool to your email, files or calendar, read what it asks to see and do. Say yes only to what the job needs.
