A prompt is a message to a company's system. Knowing who can see it, and how long it is kept, is the first step to using AI responsibly.
What to do
- Find the tool's privacy or data-use page and read the short version.
- Check whether your conversations are kept, and whether they can be used to improve the product.
- Look for a business or team plan if your work involves sensitive information.
- Write down what you learned so the next person does not have to repeat the search.
An example
Two people on a team use the same tool. One uses a personal account and the other a company account. Their data may be handled differently. Check which one applies.
Label copy
For small labels: Who can see this? Ask before you send.
For water-bottle labels: Every prompt goes somewhere. Before you send one, ask who can see it, how long it is kept, and whether you are allowed to share it.
